We have been very busy as of late working with our provincial and national denture associations, alongside our dental colleagues, to lobby for important changes to be made to the CDCP in order to make it a plan that is accessible, sustainable and viable for both clients and oral health care providers. Last week, we met with Federal Health Minister Mark Holland to discuss our concerns and offer suggestions to improve this plan.
One such barrier is the fact that oral health care providers need to sign up in order to accept clients under this plan. As a client, this means that if your preferred denturist is not signed up, you either have to find a new denturist, or forgo utilizing the CDCP. This is unlike any other private or public plan that we have in Canada, and we strongly feel that this is an unnecessary barrier that is limiting clients' choice of denturist, and we are lobbying to have this removed.
Secondly, as of writing this, denturists still do not have a fee guide for the plan which is set to begin for some clients on May 1st, 2024, and thus we cannot say which services will be offered at this time. We do know that only complete dentures will be covered beginning in May 2024; partial dentures require a preauthorization which will not be ready until at least November 2024.
We are hearing from clients' multiple times a day asking about the CDCP and how we can help them with their denture needs. At this time, we still have more questions than answers about the plan but want you to know that we are working daily to push for changes to make the CDCP a plan that will help those that need it the most while allowing clients to see their chosen trusted denture provider.
As always, please don’t hesitate to contact us at 204-306-9055 to discuss how we can help you with your denture-related needs.
Sincerely,
Greg & Audrey Pinette

The Canadian Dental Care Plan will send you a welcome package with a Sun Life insurance card and will include the date you can start seeing an oral health provider. Appointments can only be scheduled on or after that date for any eligible oral health care services to be covered under the plan. The CDCP will not reimburse you for services received before the start date.
Once you are eligible for dental services, we will be able to send out a pre-determination to SunLife on your behalf to see what services you may be covered for and at what amount, including the necessary co-payments.
Since our inception in 2019, we are a fully electronic office who deals with Sun Life daily, and will be prepared to provide services under the CDCP at the appropriate time.
This is a new program and is being updated frequently; for more information, please visit the Canadian Dental Care Plan website at canada.ca/dental for the latest details, or call 1-833-537-4342.
We look forward to continuing to provide high quality denture services in our modern, comfortable, and client-centered office as the rollout of the CDCP continues over the coming months and years.
